Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area

"Little Moments, Big Magic"

“Kids turn into the people around them”

Kids with positive adult role models have the potential for greatness.  They graduate from school, get jobs, and lead productive, healthy lives.

But for many kids in the Bay Area, the adults they see most are gangbangers and drug dealers.

For these kids, the neighborhood is as far as the world goes.  They’ve never seen the beach or the redwoods, never been to a museum or a zoo.  High school is optional and prison is a small mistake away.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area is the lifeline that connects these kids with caring adult role models.  We make and support these relationships for as long as it takes.

We transform lives.

Your donation to our agency provides more than just goodwill, it’s an investment in our future.  A study of BBBS matches found that compared to their peers, kids who met regularly with a Big Brothers or sister were:
  • 46% less likely to use drugs
  • 27% less likely to start drinking
  • 3 times less likely to drop out of school

Operation Freedom Paws

"Four Paws, Two Feet, One Team"

Operation Freedom Paws empowers veterans and others to live a quality life by teaching them to train their own dogs, and certifying them as service dog teams. The dogs, usually from rescue organizations or shelters, are carefully evaluated. Each is then matched to a specific clients physical and psychological needs. There is no charge--all we ask is a commitment to complete the 48-week training program. 100% of OFP's funding is provided by fundraising events, individual donations and grants from private foundations.

Meals On Wheels Diablo Region

Over 1,000 Californians turn 65 every day. By the year 2030, it is estimated that 20% of Californians will be 65 or older.  Meals on Wheels Diablo Region is a full-service nonprofit organization dedicated to helping seniors live independently and with dignity.  Every day, we deliver hot meals to close to 800 homebound seniors that are unable to cook or shop for themselves.  The nutritious meal, friendly words and safety check help them cope with three of the biggest threats of aging: hunger, isolation and loss of independence. We also offer a range of other services for seniors including our Caregiver Support seminars and workshops for unpaid (often family or friends) care providers. Our Friendly Visitors and Friendly Calls services match isolated seniors with screened and trained volunteers for weekly visits. Every Monday-Friday, seniors can go to our CC Cafes where they can enjoy social activities and a healthy, free or low-cost lunch. Our Fall Prevention Program helps reduce preventable injuries, loss of independence, costs and deaths associated with falls among seniors.  And finally, our Care Managers provide confidential guidance to help older adults and their families meet long-term care needs.

There With Care of the Bay Area

There With Care provides a wide range of meaningful and fundamental services to children and families during the critical phase of a medical crisis. We serve families, referred by social workers at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, by building a network of services and people who ease the burden of life’s day-to-day obligations with compassion and care. Services are available for patients fighting cancer, blood disorders or other life-threatening diseases, as well as critical babies in the Neo-natal ICU (NICU). We listen to the specific needs of each family and offer a range of flexible support programs including: transportation to and from treatments, prepared meal and grocery delivery so parents have more time with their ill children, patient and sibling support to ensure the entire family is being cared for, baby essentials for families with babies in the NICU, and we partner with therapists to help families deal with the emotional stresses of critical illness.

Joan Mazak, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Foundation, says: “There With Care is a much-needed organization that is able to provide services that our foundation is unable to assist with. It truly complements our service and is very much in tune with the needs of families whose children are critically ill.
